Femtosecond laser

Lunds universitet

Laser-based methods provide highly valuable insights for research on gas-phase phenomena, for example combustion, and have been developed and applied in research at Lund University since the 1980s. Ultrashort femtosecond (fs=10^-15 s) laser pulses provide a number of attractive features for such studies and the intention is to extend current laser-diagnostic research by purchase and installation of a femtosecond laser system. Methods based on femtosecond laser pulses will provide further possibilities for gas-phase diagnostics in scientific collaborations with researchers from other disciplines. Thus, the expansion will have impact on other research and is also an important strategic step for the Division of Combustion Physics to maintain a leading position in its research field.
