Laser-based methods provide highly valuable insights for research on gas-phase phenomena, for example combustion, and have been developed and applied in research at Lund University since the 1980s. Ultrashort femtosecond (fs=10^-15 s) laser pulses provide a number of attractive features for such studies and the intention is to extend current laser-diagnostic research by purchase and installation of a femtosecond laser system.
