Undulator for the XFEL heater
Uppsala University will provide the laser heater as a Swedish in-kind contribution to the European X-ray free-electron laser (XFEL) that is presently under construction in Hamburg, Germany. The purpose of the laser heater is to carefully control the momentum spread of the ultra-relativistic electron beams in order to improve the beam stability and alleviate problems due to micro-bunching instabilities.
This undulator magnet that will need to operate at different beam energies is the subject of this tender.
