MSS (Automatic Message Switching System)

This procurement is for the purchase of all software and support services to enable the current MSS to be replaced. The scope of this system is to provide a meteorological message switching service that fulfils three main roles:
I. To act as a major node on the WMO Global Telecommunications System (GTS); this enables the SMHI to exchange observational data and products with other countries around the world.
II. To act as the central data switch within Sweden; this enables observations to be received and data to be distributed to a number of production systems, at both headquarters and outstations.
III. To act as the delivery system for WMO messages; this enables the SMHI to distribute data to a variety of external organisations. There is also a need to replace the web-based system for TAF visualization, Messir-Net, as this also runs on Windows2003-servers. This replacement is, however, outside the scope of this procurement act.
