Procurement of a Surface Plasmon Resonance Biosensor

Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan

The research at the KTH School of Biotechnology is nationally and internationally well recognized. Several large scale EU projects are coordinated by scientists from the School. The School of Biotechnology is also host to the The ProNova VINN Excellence Centre for Protein Technology, a high profile multi-disciplinary centre for academy/life science industry research collaborations within the protein science field. The ProNova Centre is working in close collaboration with the Swedish Human Protein Atlas (HPA) program. With access to the worlds largest set of antibodies, the Centre is developing new methods and technologies for applications in bioscience and biomedicine.
The Protein Technology Unit at the School of Biotechnology, where the instrument will be located, is active in different disciplines of protein technology, such as combinatorial protein engineering, protein display system development, affinity protein development, biomolecule labelling, epitope mapping, immunotechnology, gene assembly, investigation of interaction thermodynamics, in vivo imaging, biotherapeutics development and viral targeting/gene therapy vector development. In these projects, it is often important to be able to in detail monitor interactions or complex formations between 2 or more biomolecules, typically involving native or engineered proteins, nucleic acids, low molecular weight compounds (incl. peptides, peptide nucleic acids and non-proteinaceous antigens). Parameters like affinity, association and dissociation rates, binding selectivity, epitope identifications are commonly of great interest. These studies may involve analyses of a range of sample types of both low and high complexity, such as pure buffer-based solutions, cell lysates or serum samples, at different temperatures. Affinities may be both low and (very) high, w/o influences of avidity effects from several simultaneous co-operative contacts, adding complexity to data interpretation.
The experiments are typically performed by personnel such as PhD students, post-docs, or research engineers. Since many groups are using the same equipment it is of importance that the equipment is robust, user-friendly and that data can be generated quickly.
