Additive manufacturing system
A system is being sought for serving as a multi-disciplinary research tool for increasing KTHs expertise on the topic of additive manufacturing (AM) technologies. For this purpose, the system to be acquired must provide enough flexibility to attend to KTHs expectations. AM is viewed by KTH as a strategic enabler of individualized and high-performing products and components with unrivaled characteristic properties, and thus a catalyst for innovation. In this sense, KTHs view on AM focuses on investigation of manufacturing processes from a productivity and capability point of view, while meeting industry demands for reduction of processing time and increased product performance from a life-cycle perspective. This encompasses activities in methods, tools, and technologies for efficient development and engineering design of technical products, also including structural applications. Investigation of material properties for improving functional characteristics and developing new materials and treatments for the process are also within the AM research scope of KTH.
These expectations have been taken into account in order to compose a detailed commercial and technical specification that is classified into either desired (should) or mandatory (must) requirements for the AM system being sought. The RFT is composed of two stages: An initial stage where general technical and commercial proposals are evaluated according to the answers provided and which qualifies tenderers for a second stage where components must be manufactured and evaluated according to specific technical procedures.
