Super-resolution fluorescence microscopy platform based on SR-SIM and PALM
Invitation.
University of Gothenburg invites you to submit a tender for a high-end Super-Resolution Fluorescence Microscopy Platform designed for imaging in laser scanning confocal (LSM), structured illumination (SR-SIM) and photoactivated localization microscopy (PALM) modes.
Background and scope.
A high-end Super-Resolution Fluorescence Microscopy Platform designed for imaging in Laser Scanning Confocal (LSM), Structured Illumination (SR-SIM) and Photoactivated Localization Microscopy (PALM) modes is to be purchased at the Centre for Cellular Imaging Core Facility at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg.
About the University of Gothenburg.
University of Gothenburg is one of the major universities in Europe, with about 25 000 full-time students and a staff of 5 200. Its eight faculties offer training in the Creative Arts, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities, Education, Information Technology, Business, Economics and Law, and Health Sciences. The Universities unique breadth in education and research provides an interdisciplinary environment conducive to collaboration with private enterprise and public institutions. The quality of the University has earned recognition in the form of numerous awards, including a recent Nobel Prize, and a steady stream of applicants at all levels.

About the Centre for Cellular Imaging (CCI).
Centre for Cellular Imaging (CCI) is an advanced light microscopy facility that focuses on the imaging of biological events at the cellular/molecular level of fixed or living cells or tissue. The main aim and mission of the CCI is to provide light microscopy, from the very basic to state-of-the-art equipment, to support the research and education at the Sahlgrenska Academy and the Hospital. The facility is also open to other users from the scientific community and industry in Gothenburg and beyond.
— CCI provides access to and training on high-end light microscopy platforms, with focus on fluorescence imaging techniques. The available microscopes are conventional wide-field fluorescent microscopes, laser-scanning confocal microscopes, a High Content Screening microscope and a multiphoton microscope. In addition, one of the microscopes has equipment for fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS). We also provide software programs for data processing and analysis, e.g. 3D/4D reconstruction, deconvolution, colocalization, quantification etc,
— CCI is as much a centre for knowledge as a centre for advanced technical equipment.
Therefore, we provide access to state-of-the-art know-how about light microscopy techniques, specimen preparation and image processing/analysis on different levels: first, by training and continuously giving support to the users at CCI, second, by teaching at undergraduate and graduate level. At the CCI we usually do not provide such a service where the customer hands in a specimen and gets a result out, even if this exists as an option. Instead we teach the users to use the equipment themselves in a proper way, which will steadily increase the number of scientists at the University of Gothenburg who have a good knowledge about light microscopy and use it regularly in their research.
— CCI takes the responsibility of making sure that the equipment and the know-how is up to date. This is accomplished by collaborating with other scientists in applications for new expensive equipment, by having a close relationship with the companies that manufacture the equipment, by being members in national/international light microscopy networks, by participating in international conferences and courses on relevant topics, by reading scientific publications and by following the discussions on web/e-mail discussion forums.
