High-speed in vivo laser confocal microscope
The research group at the Department of Medical Cell Biology at Uppsala University is focused on leukocyte recruitment in inflammation and angiogenesis. The work is conducted in many different models, but the emphasis is on in vivo imaging. The group has established a number of microscopic techniques that enables the study of e.g. blood flow and leukocyte recruitment in muscle, fat, intestine and transplanted islets of Langerhans using wide-field, fluorescence and confocal microscopy in mouse and rat models.
Elucidating the mechanisms for e.g. leukocyte movement over the endothelial cell barrier and the growth of blood vessels requires high-resolving, sensitive and fast microscope equipment. Since the experiments are performed in vivo, the location of a certain object is not only defined by x and y coordinates, but also z, depth. This tender therefore requests a high-speed laser confocal microscope that enables the recording of multidimensional processes like leukocyte movement, fast events like blood flow, and slow events like vessel sprouting, all in four dimensions (x, y, z, and time) in vivo.
