Assignment to manage the global network coordination of ReAct

Uppsala University

The emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest public health threats of the 21st century. Use and misuse of antibiotics by individuals’ leads to selection of antibiotic resistance in bacteria that may spread to others and thus curtail effective treatment also for other members of society. Severe clinical consequences of multidrug resistance make it imperative that the problem be addressed and the frequency of resistance curtailed and managed appropriately.
ReAct (Action on Antibiotic Resistance), which operates an international secretariat at Uppsala University, is an independent global network for concerted action on antibiotic resistance. ReAct seeks to engage national/regional constituents in low- and middle income countries to support a national/regional coordinating group to develop a national/regional policy for the management of antibiotic resistance. Much is known regarding the necessary policy options required to curb antibiotic resistance, but less about how suggested counter measures are achieved. The work of ReAct focuses on and seeks to steward this process.
ReAct is working in an action-oriented way to support the translation of recommendations at policy level to concrete actions in societies and organizations. This entails work at the highest policy and academic levels as well as work with grass-root movements and civil society organizations which are necessary for uptake and sustainable action.
The consultancy concerns networking with many diverse stakeholders in the health system, mobilising and aligning agendas to address the problem of antibiotic resistance nationally or regionally. This entails; organization of meetings, policy convening, development of action plans/funding proposals and coordinating exchange activities between countries and regions.
